April is National Poetry Month

In 1996, President Clinton declared April to be National Poetry Month.  The purpose is to “celebrate the vitality and diversity of the voices reflected in works of today’s poetry.”

Below is a poem written as a group project by the participants in North Star’s Day Habilitation program in Waterloo today, April 28, 2014:

NORTH STAR:

This is North Star, It’s fun and exciting.
I like to come here to work.
It’s cool, we have morning social;
It’s better than lunch.
We plant flowers and go to music,
We cook treats and make crafts.
Bingo and movies are fun, too.
And don’t forget newsletters.
